🏡 Homeowner Tip of the Week: Water Smart, Not Hard
With summer heat in full swing, your lawn and garden need hydration—but not too much.
Water early in the morning (before 9 a.m.) to reduce evaporation and help roots absorb moisture.
Deep soak less often rather than shallow watering every day—this encourages strong root growth.
Check your sprinklers for leaks or misfires—spraying the sidewalk doesn’t help your tomatoes.
Mulch your garden beds to lock in moisture and reduce weeds.
Give your grass a good long water in case a loose firework lands in your yard!

Will residents be allowed to light personal fireworks for the Fourth of July?
For the best 4th of July events and action CLICK HERE
This week has seen a slew of fire restrictions enacted statewide, leaving residents wondering if bans will be lifted in time to light up their favorite fireworks for the Fourth of July holiday.
Mesa, Montrose, and Delta counties are under a Stage 1 fire restriction, banning the use of many fire-related activities, including lighting personal fireworks. Experts say fire restrictions can result from several risk factors, including moisture content, weather outlooks, human risk factors, and firefighting resources. Violations of the bans can result in arson charges, including risks of fines and even jail time.
But that hasn’t stopped customers from buying fireworks. Local TNT sellers tell us, despite the ban on lighting them up, they’ve seen a steady stream of firework enthusiasts willing to take the chance that restrictions will be lifted for the Fourth of July.
If they haven’t, don’t worry, you can still enjoy professional firework shows at Lincoln Park in Grand Junction and at the James M. Robb State Park in Fruita. With stakes so high to protect safety, property, and surrounding wildlife, residents are strongly encouraged to leave the fireworking to the experts and resist the temptation to put on a firework show of their own.

“Jackalopes” prevail in Identity Crisis game against Humpback Chubs
A lead you may possibly only read one time, the Jackalopes defeated the Grand Junction Humpback Chubs.
After the Grand Junction Jackalopes took on the reborn Colorado Springs Sky Sox in Tuesday night’s 16-3 victory, another odd matchup was right around the corner.
Grand Junction was scheduled to play as their “Humpback Chubs” alternate identity with accommodating primarily white and green uniforms.
Only issue is the only Sky Sox uniforms the team currently has, are white and green, so someone had to change.
Grand Junction wound up loaning the visitors some black uniforms, so in an odd turn of events, on the field, the Jackalopes were playing the Humpback Chubs, in what the team is calling “Identity Crisis Night”
“A true first time in professional baseball, where a team plays an official game against itself,” Team President Harrison Shapiro said.
The team had some fun with the announcement of “Identity Crisis Night” saying the winner would determine the future name of the team, however that was meant as a joke.
If it was not a joke, the name would be staying the same for the time being.
The Jackalopes jumped out to an early 10-0 lead by the second inning with seven runs coming in to score in the 2nd.
Despite the rare bad news that the Jackalopes offense was clicking, the Humpback Chubs made things interesting with six runs of their own, with an Alex Pimentel home run leading the charge.
However the Grand Junction Humpback Chubs were unable to climb out of that initial deficit, losing at a final of 18-9.
The series will resume with the Jackalopes playing the Sky Sox Thursday at 6:35PM.
