🏡 Homeowner Tip of the Week
🍂 Homeowner Tip of the Week: Mid-September in the Valley
As the days get shorter and the nights cooler, it’s the perfect time to get your home and yard ready for the season ahead:
Harvest & Clean Up: Pick ripe fruit and veggies before they drop and spoil. Keeping the yard tidy now makes fall chores lighter later.
Lawn & Irrigation: Lawns are still active — aim for about 1" of water per week, but begin dialing back irrigation so grass can naturally prepare for winter.
Seal & Weatherize: Check doors, windows, and siding for gaps. A little caulk or weather-stripping now can mean a warmer, more efficient home this winter.
Gutters & Roofline: Clear out early leaf buildup and check for loose shingles before heavier fall winds and leaves arrive.
👉 Pro Tip: A couple of small maintenance tasks in September can save you a big headache come November.

First annual Wild West Skate Fest
September 13 is the first annual Wild West Skate Fest at the newly built Emerson Skate Park in Grand Junction.
Families, neighbors, and businesses will gather to celebrate skateboarding culture.
Members of the Grand Junction Skateboard Alliance have volunteered to put in the work with the City of Grand Junction to set up the event.
Aside from the competition, they hope the event is something everyone can enjoy; whether you’re a skater or not.
“We are going to have a contest format for the kids, but we want to make it fun for the parents, for the spectators, and it will be more than just people competing against each other. We just want it to be more of a skateboard festival; a good time for the community and the kids,” said John Krusnoski, a member of the Skateboard Alliance.
Community members are invited to enjoy the contest, live music, and vendors of all kinds.
The contest is open to all skills levels to compete and show what they are made of.
Shelter-in-place issued as police attempt to contact individual
There was a heavy law enforcement presence on the 500 block of 28 Road on Friday.
The Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD) is attempting to contact a man who is on an active arrest warrant.
The public was advised to avoid the area for safety, and a shelter-in-place was issued for nearby residents. Around 4:40 p.m., GJPD stated the area is safe and the investigation remains active.
Officers will remain in the area for a period of time.
Our reporter on the scene said, before the shelter-in-place was lifted, it appears that law enforcement implemented a flashbang to attempt to arrest the suspect. Our reporter was also told the man is reportedly armed with a sword.

On Monday, King Pest Solutions (KPS) announced that it recently acquired a well-established local provider in Mesa County: Maverick Pest Management.

Grand Valley Power donates to Central High School to honor longtime tutor
On Friday, Grand Valley Power presented a check to Central High School in honor of a longtime volunteer tutor who died recently.
In honor of Pat Kanda — Grand Valley Power’s former finance and accounting manager, who tutored math at Central High School for more than 20 years — Grand Valley Power will donate $500 to the school’s math tutoring program every year for the next five years, a total of $2,500.
“Pat Kanda was really a special guy. He passed away this past year after a really debilitating illness and it was hard. It was hard for those of us close to him to deal with that,” said Tom Walsh, CEO of Grand Valley Power. “I think one of the ways that we can deal with it is to do everything we can to honor his legacy. And I don’t think he leaves any legacy greater than the work he did, the support he provided for young students at Central High School.”
Stephanie Yost, a math teacher at Central High School, says Pat was well loved.

Western Slope Sports!
Grand Junction River Hawks set for first ever home opener
A new team is about to debut on the Western Slope.
The Grand Junction River Hawks National Collegiate Development Conference Team will get on the ice in front of their hometown fans in Grand Junction for the first time Friday, taking on the Ogden Mustangs at a newly renovated RiverCity Sportsplex Friday at 7:30p.m.
The Riverhawks just wrapped their preseason, going 2-2 with one of the losses coming in overtime, while the team is still largely being built on the fly. Now the team will look to put on a show in their first time playing in Grand Junction.
“I think everyone’s really excited,” Goaltender Michael Marandola said, “Really good preseason, right? Just came off a good little stretch in Idaho. A lot of travel, so everyone’s a little tired, but I think everyone’s really excited and can’t wait to play here.”
