Housing
Housing Resources of Western Colorado (HRWC) will host an open house event on Friday from noon to 3 p.m. at 2781 Caspian Way. The open house will showcase the first five-plex townhome units of the Row Homes at Meridian Park.
Housing Resources had received a $100,000 grant from the City of Grand Junction in addition to a previous $1 million grant to create a downpayment assistance program. By layering the funds from the City of Grand Junction and the State of Colorado, Housing Resources can provide $65,000 of downpayment assistance on each home to make them more affordable for Grand Junction families.

Scandal in Montrose County as key government officials resign
Passionate, angry, and far from a boring county meeting.
Montrose County residents were being turned away in droves from a special session for the County Board of Commissioners held to address the recent resignations of County Manager Frank Rodriguez, County Attorney Marty Whitmore and Deputy Manager Emily Sanchez just this past Monday. Longtime Montrose residents said they’d never seen a meeting like it.
“It’s been very calm,” says Montrose resident John Broadbooks. “For the last seven and a half years, things got done. There wasn’t drama, and now this.”
Following the shocking announcement, Montrose Commissioner Chair Scott Mijares and Vice Chair Sean Pond came under community scrutiny after Whitmore and Rodriguez alleged that the commissioners had asked for their resignations. Despite the pushback, Commissioners Mijares and Pond had their supporters in the crowd.
“Commissioners Pond who is brand new and also Mijares, their main focus is not spending more money than the county has,” says session attendee Connie George.
On the agenda was a public comment period allowing community members the chance to present their concerns to the board, a chance they never received. The open forum was cancelled at the beginning of the session.
Snoop Dogg to perform in Grand Junction – again
Get ready to drop it like it’s hot and sip on some gin and juice because Snoop Dogg is coming back to Grand Junction.
The ubiquitous rapper will perform as DJ Snoopadelic at 5 p.m. on June 11 at Amphitheater at Las Colonias Park. Tickets are on sale starting at 10 a.m., Friday. The cost ranges from $50 to $109.
The show is part of R&B Sound Reinforcement’s Big Badass BBQ show. It all started with Snoop Dogg in 2022 followed by Ice Cube in 2023 and Ja Rule in 2024.

Last Freeze of the Year
Today is going to be a chilly one on the western slope full of precipitation possibilities. Chances for rain showers are around for the beginning of the weekend with even thunder possible as well. Today, expect partly sunny conditions with the highest temperatures of the day only hitting the mid-fifties. Tonight, temperatures will get down to freezing with chances of rain and snow showers overnight.
The focus for heavy precipitation today will be the southern and central mountains and adjacent valleys, with lower elevation rain and higher elevation snow expected. Afternoon convective showers will bring another round of valley rain and mountain snow, as well a few rumbles of thunder, to the remainder of eastern Utah and western Colorado. With much colder temperatures expected the next few days, there is a high chance of below freezing temperatures for the southern valleys, and a moderate chance for the central Colorado valleys.
The last freeze of the year typically occurs near April 20, and this seems to be happening at a similar time this year as well. Freeze watches are in effects for both tonight and tomorrow night as temperatures continue to plummet in the midst of this cold front. The cold front has worked its way through eastern Utah and much of western Colorado over the last several hours, bringing heavy valley rain and heavy mountain snow. Roads at pass level are snow covered, and will continue to accumulate snow through the morning commute hours, so be sure to take it easy and be prepared for difficult and slow travel this morning.
Most of eastern Utah and western Colorado can expect to see clearing skies tomorrow night, which will favor strong daytime cooling. With an already unseasonably cold air mass in place, this brings a freeze risk to areas where spring growing is already well underway. The National Weather Service expects a freeze for the Paradox Valley and the southwest Colorado valleys tonight into tomorrow morning, with a 70-100 percent chance of temperatures below 32 degrees, and a 40-60 percent chance of temperatures below 28 degrees.
Overall, expect a chilly weekend ahead!
